New Training Manager

The NZHGPA is delighted to announce the new training manager from the 19th October 2020, will be southern based Queenstown Pilot Blake Round. Blake brings experience from sitting on the NZHGPA Executive board, and holds a PG3, Paraglider Instructor, PHEC First Aid, Tow Instructor, Commercial Tandem and WOF authority experience. Blake can be found in the sky enjoying Acro, XC, Tandems, Speed flying and speed Riding. His knowledge of speed riding was invaluable in recently developing the new speed flying rating and work on the new tow manual. Welcome on-board Blake.

NZHGPA now on Drone AirShare App

After two years of collaboration with Airways, HG symbols now represent HG/PG launch sites across NZ for Drone operator pre flight planning and avoidance.
Big thank you to NZHGPA Airspace Officer Nick Taber and to Southern PG Pilot Peter Greive for mapping work. All Drones must land in close proximity to Aircraft HG/PG. To report an incident or accident; get as much information as possible about the operator and drone, photos, name of operaor address, telephone number, registration details/make of car et; if serious call police and or CAA Freephone 0508 ACCIDENT (0508 222 433), report the incident on line at CAA

'Southern Fun 2020" paragliding Competition now Open

 

    

            The "Southern Fun 2020" paragliding competition is now open for registration.

            Due to previous year successes and great flying, this is becoming the 'must do' competition for novice and experienced xc pilots in the Southern Alps over the Christmas - New Year period.

            Based out of Wanaka, but with a view to flying different and interesting alternative sites, this fun FAI Cat2 competition is once again being held from 27th December - 30th December 2020.

NZ Pilot missing - help needed

James "Oroc" Johnston has gone missing during a flight in Nevada. A search is underway. 


As well as donating for helicopter fuel, there are satellite images that can be searched.

NZ PG Nationals 2021-Nelson


The New Zealand National Open Paragliding competition for 2021 is now being held nr Nelson in the  Tasman region( a little west and north of Nelson close to Motueka) ( and environs for flying) in late February 2021.

Details for the Competition are in their preparatory stage but can be viewed on Airtribune:

Headquarters will be out at Mapua with registration opening for a limit of 80 pilots on August 1st, 2020. Be quick!
The Tasman region is a great place to fly with many varied sites, National Parks, and great social. It is a very popular competition location.

Auckland Regional Paragliding Competitions 2020

One of the bonuses of Covid19 and the restrictions on travel has been for pilots to step forward to conduct Regional paragliding competitions so as to continue to ensure that New Zealand pilots are kept current with competition flying and continue to be well represented on the World Rankings.
Johnny Hopper is conducting a League of two Auckland competitions in November and December, 2020.

Updated PG Competition Rules V22


Paragliding Competition Rules V22


 The PCC is tasked with reviewing and updating the Competition Rules from time to time.
Parts of this latest revision have been in the pipeline since the Wanaka PG Open in 2018.
In accordance with the existing Rules a new version 22 has been written and is now posted for review by the Members for a two week period prior to a final review and becoming 'official'.
The new version can be viewed or downloaded from the NZHGPA website: 'Competitions and Records' / 'Paragliding Competition Downloads'
Please take time to review them and, if there are any concerns notify the PCC.
