Canungra Cup - Kiwi Results and updated ladder

The competition season has officially begun, with 26 kiwi pilots flying in the Canungra Cup, which was designated as an overseas league. This gets re-scored for Kiwi pilots only, and the results are shown here. Congratulations to reigning champion, Reuben, who won out of the Kiwis.

Evan and Roy have both moved up within the top ten. Robbo, Eva and Leighton are climbing back towards it. Bruce Vickerman has re-entered the ladder, earning a fat 37 points in Canungra.

Reuben reinforced his position in the number one slot.

National Paragliding Ladder

The National Paragliding Ladder is ready for the 2016/17 season ahead.

There has already been some movement, actually, since Mark Hardman nominated the Rat Race as an FAI Cat-2 comp to count towards his ladder score.

Mark has jumped back into the top ten. He fell out of it in the last season while "taking one for the team" and not flying during the PG Open in Manilla that he organised.

NATIONAL PARAGLIDING LADDER 2015/16 SEASON

The National Paragliding Ladder is now finalised for the end of the 2015/16 season, and it includes results from both the Nelson PG Open and the Auckland Regional Comp.

The top ten has changed quite a bit over the season – with four in and four out.

Reuben Muir has jumped into the top spot, due to very consistent flying in both rounds of the PG Open, and was crowned as National Champion too.

Jeff Ripley has climbed several spots into second. New comers in the top ten include Roy Tingay, Glen Stevens and Louis Tapper. Notably – Wellington legend Andy Maloney has also managed to secure a spot at number ten. A great achievement as he was a new ladder entry this season.

Leo Geary Trophy winner, Leighton Joll, who has only been flying for just over a year, has established himself in joint 16^th position – go Leighton!

Over the winter the scores will all be reduced by 10% and then anyone below 250 points will be removed from the ladder.

WE HAVE A NEW LEADER

Updated National Paragliding Ladder.

You can download the latest version of the New Zealand paragliding ladder here.

It has been updated to include the six valid tasks from the PG Open (Round 1) that was held in Manilla.

Reuben Muir has overtaken Grant Middendorf at the top of the table and Jeff Ripley has climbed into third place.

Glen Stevens, Louis Tapper and Roy Tingay have all entered the Top Ten at the expense of Derek Divers, Mark Hardman and Eva Keim.

Joe Ward has appeared on the table - straight into 11th place!

Glen Stevens has scored the most ladder points (375) so far this season, while Nick Neynens is the biggest climber, moving up 28 places to number 15.

There are now 93 pilots on the ladder, and 52 of them have 277 points or less, so are facing the chop between seasons.

There are two competitions still scheduled this season that will affect this ladder.

• PG Open (Round 2) in Nelson
• Regional Competition in Auckland

As well as being FAI Cat-2 sanctioned, this event has also been declared a New Zealand Overseas Paragliding League Event - so your score may contribute towards your NZ national ladder score.

2016 PG OPEN ROUNDS DECIDED ON

In 2016 there will be two rounds of the PG Open - the NZ National Paragliding Competition.

Round One will be held in Manilla, NSW, Australia, from Monday 8th February to Sunday 14th February inclusive (registration and competition meeting Sunday 7th February).

Round Two will be held in Nelson from Saturday 27th February to Saturday 5th March inclusive (registration and competition meeting Friday 26th February).

NATIONAL PG LADDER FINALISED

The New Zealand Paragliding Competition Season has finished for 2014/15 and the National Ladder is now final.

Congratulations to Grant Middendorf who is still top of the ladder. with Reuben Muir still in second place. Eva Keim is the highest female in eighth place.

Derek Divers has re-entered the Top Ten at the expense of Nick Taber.

Visiting pilot Hugo Robben did well at the PG Open and is the pilot on the ladder who has scored the most points, however that's just what happens when a visiting gun-pilot comes to the PG Open, so kudos really goes to Louis Tapper who scored 76 ladder points.

Joint biggest ladder climbers are Johnny Hopper and Kyla MacDonald each climbing 11 ladder places this season. However, MacDonald is quick to point out that she has scored 61 ladder points; 1 more than Hopper and has therefore, apparently, "won".

There were exactly 100 pilots on the ladder at the end of the season, 39 of which mainly fly in the North Island and 61 of which mainly fly in the South. This more or less directly matches the distribution of points. While this shows that the South Island has more competition pilots it also shows that we are equally bad.

 Before next season all pilots will have their points reduced by 10% which means that 278 is the magic number... if you've got this or more ladder points then you will survive the cut, as all pilots with less than 250 points are removed from the ladder between seasons.
